Are you ready to change the world?
Every day, you make choices that impact the world around you. Walk or drive to school. Turn off the water or leave it on when you brush your teeth. Recycle or throw away that plastic water bottle. And the list goes on. Small choices that may not seem important add up to big changes for every part of our environment.
You probably hear a lot on the news or from your friends about global warming, increased pollution, dirty beaches and endangered species. If you’re like most kids your age, you really do care about the environment you will grow up in. You may already be looking for ways that you can help. Or you may not know exactly where to start.
The good news is that your generation really can make a difference in the future of our environment. You can make eco-friendly decisions now about what you do, what you buy, how you live and how you encourage others to think about the choices they make. Making small, positive changes in your life and your community today can make our world a better place for decades to come. Those changes are within your reach.
That’s what the Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge is all about. It challenges you and your team to choose an environmental issue in your own community that you care about; to learn all you can about it; and to design and act on a solution that will make it better. You will be encouraged to use your creativity and all you know about science to create real-world changes. You’ll also help other students across the nation improve their communities by sharing your results.
Students on the top three winning teams will each win a $5,000 savings bond and a new flip camera. In addition, the top two teams will win a trip of a lifetime! Runners up will also win great prizes! Great projects, not just the winners, will have a chance to be posted on the site so that others can benefit from what you’ve discovered.
The Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge is an easy way for you and your teammates to make a big difference. The information on this website will give you the tools, resources and inspiration to help get you started!
